Explosive welding: The superior option for Clad

Explosive welding Clad metals are a low-resistance, high-strength joint that allows the welding of two dissimilar metals. They are for use in high-current, high-temperature, and mechanical stress environments.

1. Enhanced corrosion resistance: Titanium is highly corrosion-resistant, making it ideal for applications where the heat exchanger is exposed to corrosive fluids. The titanium layer on the tubesheet protects the underlying steel layer from corrosion, extending the service life of the heat exchanger.
   • For example, in marine heat exchangers, the titanium layer can resist the corrosive effects of seawater, while the steel layer provides the necessary strength to support the tubes and withstand mechanical stresses.
2. Improved mechanical properties: The combination of titanium and steel provides a balance of mechanical strength, toughness, and ductility. The steel layer adds strength and stiffness, while the titanium layer offers resistance to fatigue and cracking.
   • This makes the trimetallic tubesheets suitable for high-pressure and high-temperature applications, where mechanical integrity is crucial.

Different thicknesses and grades of titanium and steel can be selected to optimize corrosion resistance, mechanical strength, and thermal conductivity.
   • For example, in applications where high thermal conductivity is required, a copper or aluminum intermediate layer can be added to enhance heat transfer.
